The Townsville Orchid Society meets at its own hall (the TOS Hall) at Joe Kirwan Park, Charles Street, Kirwan, Townsville. Regular meetings are on the 4th Friday of each month at the TOS Hall at 8pm. New members are always welcome and potential new members are welcome to attend up to three meetings without joining.
The regular meeting is where the region's growers display their flowering plants for judging. A feature of the meeting is a talk /presentation by an experienced member or orchid expert visitor. Sales and raffles (with orchids as prizes) are also run.
On the Sunday following the General Meeting, the TOS runs a Novice / New Growers meeting at 1pm. This meeting covers a range of topics over the year relating to all aspects of orchid growing. Sessions are often practical in nature, with workshops on topics such as potting styles and deflasking orchids.
The Society conducts Orchid Shows three times a year at its hall to share the beauty of the members' hobby with members of the public.
Living in the tropics, members tend to grow the hot to warm growing tropical orchids. The majority of these are epyphitic (grows on trees), however many terestrial orchids are also grown.
Townsville Orchid Society members are a diverse bunch, from all age groups and walks of life. If you are interested in learning more about the big world of orchids, please attend one of our meetings or email ...... for more information.
